Life Lessons from a 2 year old
A two-year olds creativity and their ability to simply enjoy life is something to aspire to. Spend any time around a child and their creativity and infectious laughter can’t help but rub off on you.
If you ask any child about the adults around them, they’d probably say we’re so busy and seem to be stressed out a lot of the time. Here are a few simple things they can teach us…
Pick yourself right back up and do it again when you fall- Children bounce back quickly and we can learn a lot from that. A child falls and is not afraid to pick themselves right back up and do it again. It seems as adults it is harder to pick ourselves back up when we fall. We get scared to try again when we fail the first time.
Run, skip, laugh and enjoy life-Life is meant to be lived full of joy and children are great at living this way. They have no cares and express pure joy and zest for life. When we get older we tend to let responsibilities and all the things we “have to do” suck some of the enjoyment out of our life. We get so busy and forget to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures and the things that are really important.
Be curious about the world and keep learning-Kids are always curious and always want to learn. One of the best things about being a parent is getting to explore the world again through a child’s eyes. Sometimes I think as an adult it is easy to take learning for granted. The more I learn the more I realize how much more there is to learn. One of my favorite sayings is, “the more you learn the more you earn.” The more we can learn the more value we give to ourselves and the world around us.
Be creative and use your imagination-Another great thing about children is they are so creative and use their imagination. Kids don’t worry about their thoughts or ideas being “out there.” Sometimes we just need to have fun, let go and really let our imagination run wild.
Don’t be afraid to express your feelings- I think as adults we stifle our feelings and can cause ourselves all kind of problems mentally and physically by holding back how we feel. Kids can teach us a lot because they don’t hold back. Now I am not suggesting having a temper tantrum but if something makes you upset or bothers you don’t be afraid to express it.
Don’t let self limiting beliefs hold you back- Kids believe they can do anything. They think they could run a marathon, go to the moon, or become a professional athlete. Is is only as adults that we start doubting ourselves and getting in our own way. We let all the things we think we can’t do hold us back.
Even though we teach our children they can turn around and teach us a lot. Children can really bring out the joyful and imaginative qualities in us.
I would love to hear some things that your children or other kids have taught you about life. Leave me a comment and share what you have learned.

Angela,
Great post on using a child-like mind to see the world. The ability to express yourself and keep that imagination & curiosity alive is so important to enjoying life. I agree with you that kids probably wonder why we worry about so many things we cannot change. They truly do carry the secret to a spectacular way of living.
Wonderful thoughts,
Val

Hi Angela,
I loved this article:) You listed 6 characteristics we can learn from children and the all of them helps us to keep our lives balanced and happy. Children do it naturally. Life is fun when we are curious, playful, and creative. If we go back to looking at the world in a “more simple” way, we will add more get that contentment we seek. We as adults tend to make everything so complicated. Bless their little hearts.
I think the most damageing is “Don’t let self limiting beliefs hold you back.” If we don’t abolish these negative beliefs, we will not be able to reach our goals. This one is a must to overcome in order to be successful and is most likely one of the main reasons people fail in their pursuits.
Thank you,
Raena Lynn
