Network Marketing Myths
Network Marketing can be a pretty controversial subject. There are lots of people who love network marketing, then there are those that have heard of it but have misconceptions about it for various reasons. It is understandable because there is lot of misinformation out there and also people who give Network Marketing a bad name.
This video shows a lot of what I run into when people have not been educated about the industry.
This video is funny because it really does represent what I have seen as the common perception of Network Marketing. I can understand where they are coming from because most people have never been educated on Network Marketing, were burned by Network Marketing, or they dealt with a shady company or distributor.
I want to dispel some of the network marketing myths because this is an industry that is booming and a few bad apples and misconceptions have caused network marketing to have a bad rap.
4 Network Marketing Myths
Network Marketing myth #1-Network Marketing is a pyramid scheme. As you saw in the video a lot of people have the misconception that Network Marketing is a pyramid scheme. The truth is a pyramid scheme is illegal and is where you pay money for no product or service, only for a hope to get some money in return. Where Network Marketing is a perfectly legit business and there are goods and services being exchanged for money. The reason this is confused so often is Network Marketing organizations are structured like a pyramid. If you think about the structure of any business it set up like a pyramid.
Network Marketing myth #2-To be involved with and do well in Network Marketing you need to be a slick, fast talking sales person. Actually the opposite of this is true. As the name “Network Marketing” implies you need to get good at two things to do well. Networking to build relationships with people and Marketing. I am sure there are some slick sales people that do well in this industry but I think the people who actually do the best have a good grasp on networking and how to effectively market.
Network Marketing Myth #3- You have to get in right when a company starts to make any money. You will hear many conflicting opinions on this one but I don’t think you need to get in right at the start to make good money in Network Marketing. I think you could get into a company well after it is established and still do exceptionally well financially if you are willing to work, have the right training and are consistent with your efforts.
Network Marketing Myth #4- Network Marketing is a way to get rich quick. While it is true that you can make a lot of money as a Network Marketer if someone is telling you this is a way to get rich quick without putting in any effort I would hightail it in the other direction. Network Marketing like any other type of brick and mortar business or franchise takes work and you build wealth over time.
I hope that clears up some of the common Network Marketing myths. Stay tuned for my next post where I will share why Network Marketing is a very viable, practical business model.

Hi Angela, the only people that become successful in a network marketing business are the ones that open themselves up to new opportunities and learn all about them. Anybody that does the research will find out what network marketing is and how to become successful in it. What’s in the subconscious mind is a hard thing to overcome especially we feed it with negative information about network marketing all the time. People who learn about it know the work that’s involves. That’s why some people have the mindset that they are only meant to be in a traditional business. Too bad. The information age is where any business can grow big time. Great post!

Angela-
This is a great post and I definitely going to share it. Most of the time “network marketing” comes with such a bad stigma and I am so glad you wrote this to clear up the “myths” of network marketing. I particularly like #4 because a lot of network marketers make it seem like you are going to get rich quick doing this, when in all actuality it is WORK. Thanks for taking the time to write this.
