How to be an Effective Network Marketing Leader
This picture depicts many of the words that come to my mind when I think of an efffective leader in network marketing. Let’s take a look and see how when you put these words into practice you can become a Network Marketing leader.
Motivate-To be a great leader you have to spark a passion in other people to drive them, lead them and motivate them to want success. When you are a great motivator you help people to see the potential they have in themselves and motivate them to want to reach that potential and more.
Inspire- This quote by John Quincy Adams pretty much says it all, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
Lead by Example- If you are looking to become a leader you must lead by example. I am sure you are familiar with the saying, “do as I say and not as I do”. Don’t do that!!! If that is how you operate becoming a leader might not be in your future. You want to be sure you are out doing the things you are suggesting for your team to do. It is hard to respect someone and take them seriously when they are telling you to do something but will not do it themselves.
Mentor-As a mentor in Network Marketing you want to be there as a trusted guide, friend and advisor to the people in your downline. To me being a mentor means that people trust you and value your input and the information you share. Earning trust does not always happen overnight, just work hard to provide consistent, valuable insight.
Coach-Like a coach of a sports team would coach their team and give them plays and instructions you want to do same thing for the the people you sponsor. You want to help them to figure out what works and show them the “plays” that will make them successful. Help them by coaching them on your successes so they can duplicate it.
Vision-To be a great leader you need to have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish. You need to know your mission and have clearly defined goals. You and your team could even have a vision or mission statement that you are working towards.
Teamwork-Teamwork is extremely important in Network Marketing. To be a leader in this business you want to teach your downline what you are doing and how to become successful. While your own sales are very important it is equally as important to build a downline of leaders who will replicate what you are doing. Don’t hold back what has made you a success as some sort of secret. Some of your success is dependent on the success of the people you sponsor so be sure to freely share what you are doing to build your business.
Win-Put all these together and you win. You have a great combination to become a leader and thrive in life and your business.

Angela, These are some excellent guidelines to follow to be an effective leader. People just naturally follow people who are leaders. So if we establish ourselves as a leader in this business, then naturally more people will join us in business.
I think in the end people join you in business because they see you as a leader who can help them achieve the success they want. Everything else is secondary.
I think that anyone who is trying to establish themselves as a leader should follow these guidelines you provided in this post!

Angela,
Great points you make in this post…. I think the only one I’m not 100% in agreement with is the “motivate them to want success.” I think, perhaps, they need to come to the table wanting success. From there, we can work on the rest.
Teamwork is so critical. In fact, I’ve never liked using the terms ‘upline’ or ‘downline.’ We’re all business partners working together to help others achieve more. Not everybody that joins us in business is a ‘newbie.’ Each comes with a set of skills that can enhance what’s already being done and often times, can provide new ideas and helpful insight.
You point out much of the critical roles each plays in the success of the group as a whole. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hello Angela,
Very good points. Becoming a real leader is something, one shouldn’t take likely.
I so agree with the point of lead by example. If you’re not willing to do something yourself, then you surely can’t expect others to do, what you’re not willing to do.
For me it’s all about ones actions, if you’re not practicing what you preach, then you my want to reconsider the whole leadership thing.

Hi Angela,
Great points on leadership. I’ve always believed that you must provide the example that you want of your team. In that regard, I would never ask anyone to do anything that I wasn’t willing to do myself. I think that mindset garnered me a lot of respect from my team in my former career.
All of your points are essential to effective leadership and I love how you took the diagram and made it into a post that is relevant and helpful.

Hey Wendy! I firmly believe that you have to provide the example that you want for your team. They will learn from what you do. Thanks for your comment!

Hello, Angela:
I agree with Robin about the motivation aspect. As a leader we can motivate people but the desire has to come from within them or else we aren’t really going to be effective. I have always told my associates and clients, “I’m not in the convincing business.” That being said, if I see their passion and determination, I’ll do whatever it takes to help them get where they’re trying to go! As a leader, we can help them see what they may not see within themselves and bring what’s within, out.
These are all great traits that are very important to being an effective leader in whatever business you are trying to build.
Thanks, Angela, for a great post!

Angela,
I really enjoyed reading your post. Being in Network Marketing for over 10 years I love the part relating to Inspiration and leading by example. I believe we can inspire but not motivate people as they have to do that for themselves. This is such a powerful industry and the team aspect is so rewarding.
I really love your blog and appreciate this fantastic post.

Hi Angela,
You have so many great articles on your blog, Angela. Leadership is so important in any business but particularly in network marketing because it’s a relationship business. The thing with leadership is that you can’t be a great leader if you’re not doing all the things a great leader should be doing. You nailed it with lead by example.

Angela,
In my opinion, the things that really stand out to me here is “motivate” & “inspire”. It all starts with one’s vision, if you are passionate enough about your cause you will both motivate and inspire others. I think it is imperative that a good leader be able to motivate and inspire others.

Angela,
I really like this flow chart. My idea of a leader is someone who inspires. If I see someone who can interact with other people on a personal level and really get to know them, they can truly inspire them. If I don’t feel inspired by someone, I don’t want to follow them.
That is my two cents.

Angela,
This is a fantastic summary of the skills and traits we need to be successful in network marketing. When we look at those who have made it to the top of the ladder it’s often easy to believe they got lucky, or had some type of advantage over others.
In reality, they have mastered these skills. Leadership is key, and in order to create duplication – which is mandatory for success, leaders must be able to motivate and teach their team members with king, giving hearts. Some make it look easy, but this is hard work.

Angela, I agree this quote by John Quincy Adams pretty much says it all, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” Vision is the key to inspiration. A wise man wrote, “where there is no vision people perish.” The action that we take should be inspired action not just action.

The only word that I think is missing is Teach, because really thats what a good Network Marketing leader does. They teach their teams to use the skills that they have learned in their own business. Other than that, great post.
