Strategies to Build Momentum in a Part Time Network Marketing Business

Be honest with yourself. Are you one of those people that believe that you just don’t have the time to get your network marketing business up and running? Your not alone. Many people I talk to claim they have too much to do and not enough time to do it. They wind up defeating themselves and their business looses momentum and suffers.

Full time jobs, family obligations, maintaining health and too many other distractions are the main reasons for not building momentum for their business. You can wind up feeling that your life is spent catering to every one else’s obligations. However, I have some good news! You can find and maximize time to build momentum for your part time network marketing business.  All you need is to find time and commit to use that time for your business only.

Try the following strategies to make your part time network marketing business flourish.

Document Your Daily Routine. The first thing you will need to do find a quiet place and write down your schedule. Document the start and end time on events like getting ready for work, driving your kids to school, your commute to your day job, gym time and any other weekly commitments you have. Don’t forget to include weekends and family time (this is most important).  After completing this exercise you should have a good visual of what your work week looks like. You should see openings in your week. Make your goal easy: try to find two hours you can commit to spend on your business. You should be able to re-prioritize some time.

Stay with the Schedule You Created and Re-Evaluate.  The next thing you need to do is stick with your schedule. This can be tough because you are creating a new habit.  Once you get the hang of your new routine, you should always re-evaluate your schedule. You may be able to find more time to spend making your part time network marketing business work for you. Sticking with your schedule means you need to discipline yourself to work. This means that you have to find a way after work, after little league games, after dinner and after putting the kids to bed.

Don’t Forget Your Family. Spending time with my family is always a top priority for me. I have a young child so I try to focus on the business when he is in bed. I find that using the evening hours is best for me to spend on my business. It seems to be the most quite part of the day.  If you have to use your family time to spend on your business, make sure you communicate with your family so they have an expectation of what you are doing. However, I would recommend that you set a time limit so you can spend that time you want with your family. This will provide balance between work and family for you.

Embrace Distractions.  As we all know life also throws us off schedule. Try your best to embrace that fact instead of fighting it. If your child stays up late, focus on helping your child quiet down and go to sleep. Try not to focus on what you could be doing. Don’t worry. The work will still be there when you are ready. If you have to stay late at your day job, then choose to work late. Usually, you”ll find that it is better just to focus on one thing at a time. You’ll be more efficient and effective. Having a clear and guilt free mind while working on your part time network marketing business is more effective. To handle new ideas that can distract you while you are working, keep an MP3 Recorder handy so if an idea comes up you can record it or write down the idea in a notebook. You can always prioritize those thoughts at a later time. You will also find that you are using less energy dealing with distractions instead of fighting them.

So there is good news when it comes to finding time to work on your part time network marketing business. Don’t despair and don’t get frustrated. Just remember that you have total control of your time and you alone can change your habits to build your businesses momentum.

There are many strategies you can use to build your network marketing business.  I found this one particularly motivating and the best way since I have got in the industry to create a big spark in my business.

Going to company or networking events is a great way to begin to build your network marketing business.  I was doubtful of this for a long time thinking I would not get much more value in person than I could get from online training.  Boy was I wrong.  There is just something about getting around other people in your company or people in the profession that is transformational.  Like someone said at the last company event I was at, “being at a live event is like getting around a fire, if you are around a bonfire long enough you start to smell like it.”  It  really is true because when you get around that energy and meet other people who are fired up it rubs off on you and the energy is contagious.

Live company events are great because they are great places to get the training you need to build your network marketing business.   While I have been on many online trainings for my business none of them held a candle to the amount I learned at a live company event.

Getting around other people in your business is extremely valuable.  Being able to meet others in your company and build relationships with them is what it is all about.  It is a great way to share tips and strategies for what is working and whats not.

While getting to a live event will be an investment of either your time or money it is well worth it if you you want to build your network marketing business.  There is really nothing that can compare to getting around that fire.

According to Eric Schmidt former CEO of Google, “more content is being produced in 48 hours than was created from the beginning of time until 2003.”  So while you might be out there trying to push your wares it might all be in vein if you don’t know how to stand out online. It is easy to get drown out with all the noise out there.  People are inundated with messages, advertising, links and content and they are doing whatever they can to tune all that out.

As a society we are doing more and more to avoid marketing messages.  People use Tivo to skip commercials, it is growing increasingly difficult to get people to read e-mail messages and the do not call list now tops 200 million. People don’t want to be talked at, they are assaulted with people trying to sell them something.  These days more people are looking to buy from or work with people they like, know and trust.

3 Ways to Make Sure You Stand Out Online

Build relationships

Building relationships is a powerful strategy to help you stand out online because people don’t want to be talked at and they want to do business with people they like , know and trust.   When you have built relationships with people and have earned credibility you have people who are much more willing to listen to you and even re-share your information.  Let’s be honest how many times have you clicked on links or listened to recommendations by people that you don’t know?  Now how often do you check out things people share that you have established relationships with?   I am guessing most likely you are leery of clicking on links of people you don’t know but when you have had interaction or established some sort of relationship with someone you are more likely to trust their link or recommendation.

Share Value  

When you share valuable information it makes it much easier to stand out online.  If you look at the things that get shared most frequently you will see that they are  things that are helpful, useful or enlightening.  When I think of the people who stand out either on social media or with a blog each and every one of them provide tremendous value.

Be a Go-Giver

One of the quickest and best ways to stand out online is by helping other people out.  Share people’s Tweets on Twitter, leave comments on Facebook and share people’s blog posts.    Helping other people out will make them stand up and take notice.  It is a great way to not only stand out but also a great way to establish relationships.

It does not have to be hard to stand out online even though there is a whole lot of noise.  Work to build relationships, give value and be a go-giver and you will find standing out is a cinch.

Building A Business by Pull and Stay Versus Push and Pray

Marketing when building a business is something you have to get right for success, the effective way is to use pull and stay rather than try to push and pray. While neither of these methods are new to marketing, in his book ‘UnMarketing’ author Scott Stratten puts these concepts into these simple terms that makes it easy to understand.  I think grasping these concepts will determine the the ease of building your business and the ability to build long term success.

Why build your business by pull and stay

Pull and stay is in simple terms is attracting the right kind of buyers and prospects, getting permission to market to them,  engaging them, and building relationships with them.  Author Seth Godin puts it perfectly, “Selling to people who actually want to hear from you is more effective than interrupting strangers who don’t”.  Once you have pulled people in be sure you stay in communication to stay in front of them and be appropriate with how and what you communicate.  You don’t want to take advantage of  people, spam people or lose trust with the people who might potentially do business with you in the future.

Why to avoid Push and Pray

Trying to market using this method is going to leave you with a lot of frustration and is not a way to build long term success.   I see a  whole lot of people marketing this way (I hope mostly because they don’t know better), they put their product or links out there just praying that someone will miraculously find it and have a need for what they are pushing.

If you spend any amount of time online push and pray is rampant.  Social Media  is full of people who just push out links hoping to catch someone’s eye and gain their business.  It is hard to stand out when thousands of others are pushing their products this same way.     You may have also run into this scenario, someone initiates contact with you telling you that you can get involved with the hottest new company, that they have the best product known to man or that you can make a million dollars working with them.  I don”t know about you but when someone’s first point of engagement with me is this using this approach there is about a zero percent chance that I will have any interest.  I would assume most people agree with me and a zero percent response is not very good odds and not a good long term plan for building a business.

How much do you really want to make an online income?  Do you want to develop a business which can make money for you 24 hours a day 7 days a week almost automatically? The Good News is…YES, you can make money online. Many others have created full-time incomes while only working part-time online. It is within your grasp. Plus, many of them have started with little or no money! The Bad News is…Many of you will need to make a shift in your actions and attitude before you will be able to reach your goals. Yes…Even with the right information and the right foundation, many people have still failed in their online ventures just because they did not develop the right attitude, skills and strategies.

You ability to make an online income is determined by attitude

An old statement that comes to mind right now for me is “Your Attitude determines your Altitude.” Your success in life cannot bypass your attitude about life. If your mindset is that you are poor and always will be poor, it will show itself in anything you do. No matter what you do, your results will be poor in your online business and it will not be easy to make an online income. Having a positive attitude about yourself and about your business is a part of this right attitude, but that is not what I want to focus on in this section. I want to focus on your reasons and vision for your online business. If your vision for your online business is to just make enough money for a little extra income or to just produce a full-time income for yourself, you will be severely limiting your results. If that is you, you need a change of attitude.

Make an online income by looking for problems and developing solutions

Those who are the most successful and are able to make an income online are the ones who LOOK for problems and develop solutions to them. They have a vision which is bigger than just to make a little money. They have a vision to solve problems for others. YES, you need to learn about Internet Marketing Techniques and about how to write killer ad copy. Yes, you need to know how to produce sales, BUT what is it that you are selling? Are you selling just another product OR are you selling a SOLUTION to people’s problems.

Are you just in business to make a little money or do you honestly care about helping other people? The ones who become the most successful and are able to make an income online are the ones who find a NEED and fill it. They develop the answer that people need. This factor is true and can be applied no matter what type of online business you are in. For example, if you run a network marketing site, are you just trying to hype people up in your program OR are you becoming a source for information on how they can succeed through this method of distribution.

LOOK for problems…People are frustrated with all kinds of things and you can help them. Look for these types of problems and frustrations and develop or find products which have the answers. In other words, DON’T just try to think of new ways to make money…Think of ways to solve more problems for more people! Then, the money will come once you learn the marketing side of the equation.

Too often we want someone to just hand us a completely developed business or a business-in-a-box. The truth of the matter though is that most of the time, these types of plans just don’t exist. Any type of online business you get involved in will require you to begin thinking of new ways to advance it if you want to be as successful as possible. The Good News is that all you have to do is start changing your attitude over to being a problem solver.

What problems are still out there in your specific market? What problems do people have when they order from your competition? What can you do to make your product or service a better answer to people’s needs? When you ask yourself these types of questions you are often taking the first step to success. You are recognizing the problem. Now, with the right attitude, you can start looking for the solution. You have the question. Now, apply the thinking, brainstorming, research, and work to find the answer to make an online income.

In simple terms, relationship marketing means taking care of your existing customers and being who your customers are looking for.  It means building the like, know and trust factor so when your competitors come around you have loyal customers who want to stick with you.  This concept seems simple doesn’t it?   It really is a no brainer but too often is not a part of the marketing plan.  It seems so many people and companies put their focus on attracting customers rather than keeping them – a term referred to as offensive marketing.  Now I am all about attracting new customers but it just makes sense to serve your existing customers well. Relationship marketing will make all the difference in the world, not to mention it can save you and your business money.

 What is Relationship marketing all about?

This marketing philosophy means, getting to know your customers and understand their needs.   It also means building relationships with your customers and providing outstanding customer service.  If you want some good examples on businesses doing relationship marketing well there are 3 great books out there you need to check out.  The books are, “The Thank You Economy,” by Gary Vaynerchuk, “Unmarketing” by Scott Stratten and “The Go-Giver” by Bob Burg and John David Mann.

 Why is Relationship Marketing so Powerful?

Why is focusing on your current customers more profitable? Because if you are always putting your money and resources into getting new customers, the customers you do have are not getting the attention they deserve and they are where you current income is coming from. If you choose to not invest in building relationships with your current customers it is up to you but do this at your own peril. Another term for trying to keep customers and increase their loyalty is called defensive marketing. Customers who have already bought something from you are your bread and butter, your key to continued profitability.  You NEED them and can’t afford to lose them.  They’re your assets.  And you value assets and treat them accordingly.

Having loyal customers that stick around is worth a lot to your business.  Keeping existing customers happy is powerful because the cost of keeping an existing customer is only about 10 per cent of the cost of getting a new one.  What is the lesson here?  Make the customers you have a priority, treat them well, build relationships with them and you will have a solid business.

We are approaching a critical time of the year where 2011 is quickly winding down and it is time to build momentum for 2012.  The conflict at this time of year is people tend to put their business on a back burner with the holidays coming up.  As we spend time prepping for parties and celebrating it can be easy to let our business slip.  The advantage you have is if you choose work diligently over the next few months when everyone else is taking it easy you can gain big momentum in your business and build big momentum for 2012.

Even though most people are too busy to be actively looking to join a business during the holidays that is not the case come the start of 2012. People are making changes in their life at the start of the year and you want to be ready and positioned for those customers and business seekers in January.  If you build your momentum now you will put yourself in a good place for growth in 2012.

Here are 3 ways to really make some headway as we wrap up 2011.

1. Pick 2-3 business building strategies and do those things everyday.   The list of things you could choose to do for building your business is huge but some of the most popular would be engaging with customers on social media, advertising, videos, blogging, SEO or article marketing .    Choose the methods that work for you and then work your tail off for the rest of the year.

2. Set goals.  Set specific goals that you can measure and track.   For instance if adding more customers would give you huge momentum for 2012 you want to be very specific on how many customers you want so you could say, “I want 25 new customers by December, 31 2011.”  You would not want to say, “I want more customers by the end of the year.”  The first one is specific and measurable and the second one is not.

3. Combine your strategies and your goals into daily to do lists.  I have found lists are very beneficial to me and I use several different kinds of lists.  I have one that lays out my week and everything I need to do that week is blocked off on my calendar.  The other lists is a daily to do list I create each night where I write specific tasks for the next day.  This is very helpful because I wake up each day knowing exactly what I need to do.

You can easily build a business that kick starts your 2012 with some serious momentum.  Make the conscious choice right now to take the steps that will allow you to have a year to remember.

Network Marketing: Selling Versus Marketing

Network Marketing Are You Selling or Marketing?

Times have changed since network marketing was introduced to the world. We must be very careful how we approach our prospects, however.

Just because the profitability of network marketing is still viable doesn’t mean that using the same old techniques that are used in the 80s is not going to get you the same results in the 21st century!

Here is the irony part – when the term network marketing was coined, everyone focuses on the first word rather than the second. In other words, they go around networking instead of marketing!

Most people who are in network marketing do not have a CLUE what marketing is all about! They go about recruiting friends and family on their name list while deluding themselves into thinking that they are ‘sharing’ or ‘marketing’ their products to people.

MYTH: Network marketers are not in sales, they are merely sharing products with other people

TRUTH: Network marketers who do not have a marketing system in place are actually in SALES.

What they are actually doing is that they are SELLING an idea to someone else. Whether they are selling the product or the opportunity, they are trying to convince someone to change their mind about what they have to offer.

Remember – Sharing is different from selling. It is totally different. If you are my friend and you are having a conversation with me right now, I would share with you about my passion for traveling.

When I’m sharing with you, I’ve no intention to SELL you travel.

Get the idea? Selling is different from sharing.

So the question is: How do you generate business in Network Marketing without ‘SELLING’?

I’m not saying that you do not sell any products. But what I’m saying is that the approach when it comes to marketing versus selling is totally different!

Take a doctor for example.

A doctor sells his or her services. But they don’t go around recruiting patients or sending out flyers and advertisements saying that they are the best gynecologist in town!

When people go to the doctor, they seek the doctor’s EXPERT advice. They listen intensively to every word they have to say and they will take whatever medicine they recommend. (So much different compared to network marketing recruitment, don’t you think?)

The same principle applies to marketing!

Marketers sell products, but not in the way sales people do. A person who markets their business effectively is a LEADER. They are EXPERTS. They don’t go around peddling their wares like a sleazy salesman. They are good at marketing themselves in such a way that they will always:

  • Find the right target market
  • Find the right people to join their downline (and their downlines will listen to them and do what they say)
  • NOT waste their time on the wrong people
  • Attract the right people to them.
