Weeding Out Negative Thoughts

Weeding Out Negative Thoughts

negative thinking, weeding out negative thoughts

Coming from a background of Landscape Architecture and loving to garden I am starting to realize how similar weeding in the garden is to working on your personal development and mindset to overcome negative thoughts and attitudes.  If you don’t work on your thoughts negativity can creep in and take over like invasive weeds in the garden.  Let’s explore how similar it is to weed the garden and work on your mindset and how you can use this concept to make easy changes.

Weeds- Like weeds growing in a garden, negative thoughts in our mind tend to sprout easily and be hard to get rid of.  Weeds are problematic unless you continue to keep up with them, if not tended to they grow out of control and overtake the garden.  So it is with your mind and negative thinking, it is far better if you can tackle negative thoughts from the get go and be proactive about them.   When a person gets on a negative train of thought it tends to take over

Growth- It is hard for positive things to grow and flourish if negativity has overtaken it.  In a garden it is hard for flowers and plants to grow and thrive if weeds have overtake it.  They can’t compete with the weeds that have taken over.    Similarly if you are dominated by negative thoughts and actions  it is hard to break free from those thoughts and cultivate the good, positive thoughts and attitudes.

Beauty-Beauty in the garden comes with a lot of work and cultivation.   It comes with being proactive and taking action to keep the weeds out.  So it is with our mind.  Our minds need a lot of cultivation and work to weed out the negativity and find the positive.

I love these 2 quotes and I wanted to share them because they really help to demonstrate how to weed out the negativity-

~ Negativity sucks away energy. If part of the negativity stems from your attitude or perspective, commit yourself at the beginning of each day and each activity to find something positive in yourself and in others around you. If the people around you are negative and you can’t change that, either remove yourself from the situation or view it simply as one obstacle you face in pursuing your own potential. Stay focused on your own goals and make the best of the situation. ~ Terry Orlick

~ What we focus on, we empower and enlarge. Good multiplies when focused upon. Negativity multiplies when focused upon. The choice is ours: Which do we want more of? ~ Julia Cameron

So yes, to find positivity in our life sometimes does take some effort and work to weed the landscape of our mind.  But it is well worth the effort to plant positive thoughts that give much more beauty to life.

Is Your Glass Half Empty Or Half Full?

Is Your Glass Half Empty Or Half Full?

If you have been around my blog for any length of time you probably know I am a glass is half full kind of person.  For a long time though the opposite was true and I saw my glass more as half empty.  Life, and what you get out of it can really be quite different depending on if you are a glass is half full or glass is half empty type of person.

You miss out on a lot of what life has to offer when you are a glass is half empty type of person.  When you have a negative spin on everything you miss so many of life’s good things.  I know it can be so easy to take things for granted and not appreciate even the little things that really are a true blessing.  I have been in the place where I focused on the negatives in my life.  I have since learned that life is way more fun and fulfilling when you focus on seeing things positively.

So what are some ways you can be a glass is half full type person and focus on the good things in your life?

Take time to reflect on your life and write down all the negative things in your life and then take time to write down the positives.  If you really think about the positives I think they will far overshadow the negatives.   I know sometimes the positive things can be easy to overlook but try to think positives no matter how small they may seem.

If you are having trouble looking at the positive things in your life consider these things-

If you have a job of any sort you are very lucky even if you are not making a lot of money by some people’s standards.  Take a look at www.globalrichlist.com and enter in your salary.  For example if you make $15,000 a year you are in the top 12% of the worlds wealthiest people.  Bump that up to $35,000 and you are in the top 5% of the worlds wealthiest, go even higher to $100,000 a year and you are in the top .66% of the worlds wealthiest.

If you own and drove a car today you are among only 8% of the people in the world that owns a car.

If you got out of a warm bed today, had food to eat, have a roof over your head, have people that love you, have your health and have freedom you are extremely lucky.

Try thinking positively as a way to greater joy, happiness and satisfaction in your life.  I hope that if you are a glass is half empty type person you can start seeing the glass as half full.
