Important Network Marketing Lessons from an Inspiring Lecture

I could watch this video over and over. Not only is it inspiring, I have taken away some amazing lessons from this video that I have applied to my life and the way I do business. Let’s go over the key points he talks about in the video and how you can apply them to life and business.

You can’t control the cards you are dealt, only how you play your hands.
All of us face obstacles and disappointments in our lives. We can’t control many of the bad and unpleasant things that happen to us. We can however, decide how we are going to handle those things. Are we going to let bad things get us down and make us give up? Or are we going to stay positive and turn bad experiences into learning situations? When bad things happen to me I try to think, “What can I learn from this” rather than “why is this happening to me?”

Anything is possible and if you don’t achieve your dreams you can still get a lot by trying for them.
I have big dreams and goals of what I want to accomplish in my businesses. I have not reached them yet, but I can tell you I am working hard to make them a reality. I can also tell you that by trying to achieve my dreams I have done a complete 180. I now nurture my mind, body and spirit in ways I never did before. I spend lots of time learning new things and soaking in all the information I can. I take way better care of myself and respect myself a whole lot more. So even if I do not reach my lofty goals I am so much better off and I have gained so much in the process of going after my dreams.

Brick walls are not meant to keep us out. They are there to show us how much we want it.
I have had the feeling of being up against a brick wall many times in my business. There are times when I am frustrated and have setbacks. But being in those situations never makes me want to give up; it makes me realize how much I want to succeed. Being up against a wall makes me realize how much I want it and that I am willing to work to get it.

Importance of people versus things
I think that life would be nothing without the great people in our life. When I think back on my life the things I think about are people and experiences I have had with those people. I rarely thing about the “things” I have had. We will always have our memories but things come and go. Just as people are important in our personal life people are so important to your business. Establishing great relationships with customers is a great way to expand your business. Get to know your customers and develop relationships with them.

Practice being a Tiger rather than an Eeyore-
Dr. Pausch describes a Tiger as someone who is energetic, fun, enthusiastic, curious, and optimistic. Those would be qualities that would attract me to someone and that would be someone I would want to do business with. I am guessing the majority of people would be attracted to this kind of person and want to do business with someone like this too. I work hard every day to be positive, upbeat and enthusiastic. I always believe that business should be fun and you should enjoy what you are doing. It makes it easy to work when you are having fun doing it.

To achieve your dreams you better work and play well with others- Live with integrity, tell the truth and learn how to apologize when you screw up.
I think learning to work and play well with others is one of the key things we all need to know how to do. You can be extremely smart and talented but if you don’t know how to work with others you probably won’t be as successful as you could be. One great lesson Dr. Pausch teaches is that we need to learn how to apologize. It should be 3 parts- “I am sorry, it was my fault and how do I make it right.” I think it is hard for some people to suck it up, say they are sorry and admit they are in the wrong. I agree with Dr. Pausch that this is very important skill to master.

Don’t complain just word harder.
If you waste your time on complaining and whining it is not going to really get you anywhere. I know I have had bad days when I grumbled and whined. It did not solve anything and left me more frustrated. Like Dr. Pausch says, ”you can choose to take your finite time, energy and effort and you can spend it complaining or you can spend it playing the game hard which is probably going to be more helpful to you in the long run.”
