My List of Personal Development Resources

I am a big believer in the importance of personal development on a regular basis and I have put together a list of my favorite go-to personal development resources. There are a whole lot of personal development resources right at our fingertips and so many of them are free or really cheap.

My list of personal development resources

Podcasts:

I have an app on my phone called downcast where I have all these podcasts downloaded. I think you can get all of these through Itunes as well.

Entreleadership – This is one of my favorite podcasts from Dave Ramsey. He interviews great leaders such as John Maxwell, Simon Sinek, Tony Dungy, Michael Hyatt, Stephen Covey and so many more. I love these podcasts because they are inspirational and they talk about being an entrepreneur and leader.

The daily boost – I love this podcast because it is short bits of motivation everyday. This podcast covers topics such as success, goals, motivation, communication and more.

Inspiring words of encouragement – This is a podcast from Zig Ziglar and he is just a classic. Sad that he is no longer alive to share his amazing value but you have his great wisdom at the push of a button.

MLSP wake up calls – MLSP is a great marketing platform with hoards of great training. Their daily wake up calls are free and open to the public. Each call is about 15 -20 minutes long and range in topics from marketing to mindset to attitude and so much more.

Online websites:

Ted.com – This site is full of inspiring, motivational and personal development videos. You should have no trouble finding inspiration here.

JimRohn.com – On Jim Rohn’s site you can get any of his amazing products. You can subscribe to his newsletter on the site and get great inspiration from Jim Rohn right in your e-mail box.

Ziglar.com -Zig Ziglar’s site has great posts on sales, success, time management, personal development and more. Zig has a great newsletter too!

Phone App:

ILA - This is a great app for personal development with blog posts as well as videos. If you dig personal development and have ever wanted to add to your income using it this app has an income component along with it.

Free Downloadable e-books:

These books are all classics and are part of the public domain so you can access the PDF’s completely free.

Think and Grow Rich – This is a classic success book written by Napoleon Hill. I think this is a must read for anyone who has a business or is just interested in self improvement and personal growth.

How to Win Friends and Influence People - Another classic book written by Dale Carnegie. I love this book and think it is a can’t miss book for personal development.

Get Into Production Not Perfection

Worry about production and not perfection

This concept seemed so foreign to me for so long. I was always worried about getting everything right before I got started. I wanted to have the perfectly designed blog, the perfect videos and I wanted everything to be just so. While I don’t think it is wrong to want things to look nice or to represent yourself in a good light wanting everything to be perfect can really hold you back.

I have learned that I get far more done and get much better results if I don’t care if everything is perfect. My videos are a bit rough around the edges and my blog design is not a work of art but I am getting content out there which I think is much more important.

If you are looking to get traffic to your content one of the greatest ways to bring traffic to your site is by sharing it on social media. Naturally it is best when your content is shared and the goal should always be viral sharing of your content. I want to share a simple way to get viral sharing of your content on Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

Why is viral sharing of your content so important?

Because you can radically extend the reach of your content

Let’s say you share your content with your network and you have 1000 people in that network that is great, but let’s say you get 10 people who share your content and combined they have 15,000 followers that just brought your content to a much larger audience. Then in turn some of that audience might turn around and share your content. That is how you get your content to go viral.

Shared content generally builds trust

Retweeted content builds trust because it shows that the content is good enough to be shared.

It helps build your network

People find your content that was shared and it will help bring you more fans and followers.

I have found this is one of my go to tools on a daily basis. The tool is called Just Retweet. As you can see from the screenshot on the left it is a highly effective tool for getting your content shared.

It is a very simple system that works on a point system. You get points when you share other people’s content with your social media network. In turn you can use those points to have people share your content on Twitter, Facebook or Google+.

I have found it to be a great way to get more visitors to my blog, to create relationships with others, and to build my network.

Spending 15 minutes a day here sharing people’s content and sharing your own will bring you big benefits.

Don’t Let Your Business Suck The Life Out of You

I was recently at a birthday party with my son and was talking to one of the moms there. She is in the same company that I got started with in Network Marketing (I’m still a part of the company for the products but no longer actively promote it.) As we talked I heard a familiar story from her. She said, “this company is sucking the life out of me.”

The leaders of the company I am with now call this, “selling the dream and living the nightmare.” If you are a part of the network marketing industry you see people working their butts off on the phone, 3 way calls, at hotel meetings and chasing after friends and family. Maybe there are people who have a passion for building their business this way but I have to believe they are few and far between. I imagine most people who got involved in an online business did so to create a life of freedom, not to be a slave to their business. Don’t get me wrong I know those methods of business building work but there are much easier, effective ways to do it. You can create a lifestyle of freedom without giving up your life.

The best thing is if you learn how to use systems properly not only will you work less, not only will your team duplicate bigger, not only will people have more success but you will actually work less for more income.

I myself did not realize the power of a system until I had to take a rather long break from it for house hunting, moving and dealing with a member of my family who has cancer. For a period of several months I was not able to put any significant amount of time into the business but yet the checks kept coming in and getting bigger.

If you are giving up your life and freedom to build a business that is sucking the life out of you it is time to stop. A successful business online requires taking the right kind of action. There are a whole lot of things you can do that will keep you busy but the most important things you can do to build a successful business online are the things that are going to get you into profit.

When I got started online I found a successful mentor who taught me the 3 things you need for a successful business online. The bad news is what I was taught was a lot of work and I had learn a lot of new skills and technical knowledge. The good news is if you are looking to build a successful business online now you don’t have to go through all the things I did. There is a simple system that will give you all the elements you need to create a successful business online if you are willing to put in the work.

Here are the 3 things that you will need to build a successful business online

Blog

A blog should be the hub of your activity online, the place you drive traffic to from all your other sites. Blog matter because people can learn about you and your business in an easy and informative way, Google and the search engines love blogs because they have dynamic content and blogs give you a way to build trust with your potential customers or prospects.

Another reason to love blogs is they are a great way to influence customers and prospects. The Social Media Examiner recently wrote this post on new research that suggests blogs now outrank social networks for consumer influence.

Lead capture page

Leads are the life blood of your business and the days are gone when buying leads made sense. You want to be able to generate leads of your own that are interested specifically in you and what you are offering.

Lead capture pages are also important because you don’t want to just let traffic come to your site without being able to capture their information and communicate with them again.

auto-responder

An auto-responder is a must for a successful business online so you can stay in communication with the people who are interested in hearing from you. It allows you to build relationships with people and it gives you leverage.

You will hear over and over that your business success is in your list. The great thing about a list is people get a chance to know you over time so even if they were not ready to buy initially they might be ready down the road.

As I talked about in the beginning of this post when I got started online I had to figure all this out on my own. I went through training after training figuring out how to set up my blog, get hosting, learn html, figure out SEO, learn how to upload things to an FTP server, figure out how to install widgets and plugins, learn how to optimize my site and a whole lot more. I had to learn to set up my own lead capture pages and put together series of auto-responder messages. The great thing is there is no longer a need for you to do all that. Think Facebook Advertising Can’t Be Budget Friendly? Think Again

Facebook Advertising can be highly effective without breaking the bank

If you asked me about Facebook advertising not so long ago I would have told you it was too intimidating and expensive. That was because my first attempts at Facebook advertising several years ago were expensive and quite honestly a complete flop. I had no clue what I was doing and it cost me big time. Not only was it expensive I didn’t get any results. Thankfully, I learned what I was doing and wanted to show you that if learn the right ways to place ads on Facebook you can actually do it very inexpensively.

Facebook Advertising Is Effective When You Understand It.

Advertising on Facebook is effective but you do have to understand what you are doing and how to get the best prices on your ads. Facebook has a lot of rules so you need to understand what will work, what won’t and what kind of ads they will approve. There is nothing more frustrating than placing ads and then not having them approved and not really understanding why.

I have found the most effective way to place ads on the site is to do sponsored stories using your Facebook page. I write a great post that will catch the eye of people in my target niche and add an eye catching photo to go along with it.

Here are a couple screen shots of recent ads that I have run so you can see that you can get really cheap clicks if you target your ad right. If you are building your business on a budget I think this is a very cost effective way to advertise. You can start small with your Facebook advertising and reinvest as you get better and produce more results.
